Hoy viajamos a 30 kilómetros de Berlín. Nuestro destino es Potsdam, capital de Brandemburgo, donde arte y naturaleza se combinan a la perfección. No en vano esta ciudad fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, la belleza de sus jardines y palacios es digna de ser visitada.
Today we are traveling 30 kilometers from Berlin. Our destination is Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg, where art and nature combine to perfection. No wonder this city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the beauty of its gardens and palaces is worth a visit.
Para empezar el día descubriremos el Palacio de Sanssouci, también conocido como el "Versalles alemán". Un coqueto Palacio lleno de historia en el que pasaba largas temporadas Federico el Grande un monarca que buscaba en este refugio estar "sans souci" (sin preocupaciones). Os recomiendo seguir atentos las explicaciones de la audio guía para no perder detalle de la decoración y la finalidad de cada una de los salones del Palacio. Es una de las obras cumbres del Rococó y en él disfrutaréis de impresionantes jardines decorados con templetes, pabellones, viñedos e invernaderos que en su día albergaban las especies florales y frutales más exóticas.
To start the day we discover Sanssouci Palace, also known as the "German Versailles". A charming palace full of history in which Federico the Great spent long seasons. The monarch just wanted to be "sans souci" (with no worries). I recommend you to pay attention to the explanations of the audio guide for a closer look of the decor and the purpose of each of the rooms of the palace. It is one of the masterpieces of Rococo works. You will enjoy of breathtaking scenery gardens with gazebos, pavilions, vineyards and greenhouses that once housed the floral species and exotic fruit.
No os perdáis el Palacio Nuevo, se trata de un gran edificio renacentista de ladrillo visto cuya cúpula de color verdoso destaca notablemente. Aquí vivió el hijo de Federico el Grande, quién "respetó" el Palacio de recreo de su padre y construyó en los alrededores su propio palacio así como dependencias separadas para su corte. Resulta imposible no jugar a imaginar cómo vivía la realeza.
Do not miss the New Palace, this is a great Renaissance style brick building whose noticeably greenish dome highlights. Here lived the son of Frederick the Great, who "respected" the summer palace of his father and built around his palace and his court separate units. A la hora de comer elegimos el restaurante Potsdam Zur Historischen Mühle de la cadena de restaurantes de Mövenpick que está muy cerca al Palacio de Sanssouci. Os lo recomiendo totalmente por su agradable ambiente tropical, sus platos y sus helados (dicen que son los mejores del mundo). Increíble.
At lunchtime we chose the Potsdam Zur Historischen Mühle Mövenpick's restaurant, very close to the Palace of Sanssouci. Recommended it highly for its pleasant tropical atmosphere, and ice cream dishes (they are considered the best in the world). Amazing.

Por último visitaremos en Palacio de Cecilienhof conocido por servir de escenario a la firma del Tratado de Potsdam tras la Segunda Guerra mundial. El Palacio tiene la apariencia de una casa de campo, os sorprenderéis al descubrir que una de las habitaciones fue diseñada como si se tratara del camarote de un barco.
El Palacio, como os decía fue elegido para celebrar la Conferencia de Potsdam porque era de los pocos lugares seguros y que aún se mantenían en pie tras la guerra. Fue acondicionado para tal fin, podréis visitar los despachos con personalidad propia que pertenecieron a Truman, Churchill y Stalin. Así mismo, podréis visitar la sala donde se firmó el Tratado que, con el tiempo, conduciría al mundo a la bipolaridad comunista-capitalista en la Guerra Fría. A mi me pone los pelos de punta pensar que la historia es tan reciente y que a día de hoy la seguimos escribiendo.
Los jardines que rodean a Cecilienhof son magnificos y merecen la pena ser visitados y que, aunque cuando nosotros fuimos estaba de reformas, este Palacio alberga un conocido hotel que debe ser muy interesante.

It was installed for this purpose, you can visit the offices with personality that belonged to Truman, Churchill and Stalin. Also, you can visit the room where the treaty was signed that eventually lead the world into the capitalist-communist Cold War bipolarity.
